Lekha Nair (Captain)
Baby Lekha first found a love for dance and performing when she saw her first Bollywood movie and dreamed of one day being a Bollywood star. Growing up, she continued dancing and performing, from Bharatanatyam, for which she performed her Arangetram under Smt. Jothi Raghavan, to folk to item numbers. Once in college at the University of Chicago, Lekha became captain of Chicago Raas, where she developed high cardio energy and stage presence like never before, and a member of UChicago Maya, where she learned more technically difficult styles like jazz and ballet.
Lekha moved to New York in 2015 to pursue a PhD in immunology at Columbia University. Although not a Bollywood item dancer as planned, she has been determined to make performing arts a major part of her life. She found Manhattan Andaaz to fulfill her love of dance and has never looked back! When she’s not doing science or her captain duties for this wonderful dance group, she is pursuing other hobbies like singing (sometimes at open mics!), drawing, playing piano/guitar, exploring bars and coffeeshops, taking barre fitness classes on ClassPass, or sitting at home watching Netflix and eating mac and cheese.
